Recalling last year, it was a crap-fight trying to get around due to every man, dog, other photography forum and child being there on the opening night or second night of teh Fire Water. I did go a bout a week before the DSLRuser meetup and it was much more pleasant from a logistics point of view. So, are peole hell bent on seeing the fire on water thingy-um-bob? or are they happy to go a week early, and have the ability to move around more? Basically it will be either the weekend of the 11th June - this is the start of the fire on water thing. I suggest going at the start of the show period rather than the end. or the week before this and miss the fire on water. thoughts, comments, rants..??

Gerry I'd say skip fire water and go earlier on 4th - interestingly 11th June is when we'd have our next 2x2

As the 5th is rapidly approaching I thought I'd bump this. I have this one in the diary and thought I'd check we are still on, and perhaps inquire as to a proposed meeting place and time. I'm trying to put together a photo shoot for the afternoon as well so I need to make sure I can get down on time.

 Sweet, the 5th it is....this year the main walk starts at St Mary's Cathederal and goes down Macquarie Street. CameronNikon F/Nikon 1 | Hasselblad V/XPAN| Leica M/LTM |Sony α/FE/E/Maxxum/M42Wishlist Nikkor 24/85 f/1.4| Fuji Natura BlackScout-Images | Flickr | 365Project

ok ...so looking at the vividsydney site it looks like the focus is down Macquarie from St Mary's to the Opera House. I assume this is a change from last year based on Gerry's notes here. If I'm right there's not much point starting at Observatory Hill... we might be better off meeting around the Quay or up the other end at St Mary's ??? p.s. Love your house pic from last year Gerry !!!Photography is not a crime, but perhaps my abuse of artistic license is?

I'm, happy with either end. While I'll be coming from Paddington so I like the idea of starting at St Mary's, the Quay probably offers more options at sunset before we complete the walk after dark.
Sunset is 4:53 I believe, so biggerry's 5ish makes sense as a meet time, or perhaps 4:30 for those that want to get the last of the sun. It seems that the walk will be best once the light has gone completely so perhaps about 5:30 would be the time to then set out towards St Mary's?

If the Quay, I think Stubbsy's suggestion of the Overseas Terminal might be a good plan. Get's a bit away from the chaos that is the ferry wharves and probably a better spot for some sunset shots.

I guess a quick show of hands?

Having said all that, there is a chance I'll be a bit late but Stubbsy, I'm pretty sure I have your number so I may be calling you to track you guys down if I miss you!

My suggestion is we meet 4:30 at the overseas passenger terminal. We can then take some sunset shots from there and be already set up for SOH when it gets darker. After that we then head around towards the quay and down Macquarie St once it's darker.

It really could really go either way. Prediction from BOM is 'a few showers' but it's prediction for today was 'showers' and the amount of water falling form the sky when I got up this morning was more apocalyptic than a shower!
