Wednesday night brough along the first round of miss motorsport held by Circlework and Crazy Sexy Cool. It was held for the Swan Animal Haven Charity.
This is my first attempt at this type of photography, and I would really like some comments and criticims on how i could shoot better for round 2. The position on the runway was pretty limited, as i was mashed in with all the other drunken spectators below the runway.
All shots with the d200 17-55 and sb800 on top.
The rest of the gallery is here:

i'd really appreciate it if you had a look and tell me where i could improve! Thanks everyone
Big thanks to Kyle for the hosting! You rock mate!

Can't offer to much in the way of criticism mate, this is out of my league, maybe Wendel or someone can help.
The lighting sure looks like a bugger. I would maybe try (if I ever get the chance) to shoot in RAW, and under expose slightly, adjusting in PP. The shiny skin makes for hot spots. (No pun meant, but it does).
Were these shots with existing light, or speedlight?
I would just like to say that it's good circlework are raising money for charity. Really really good.
I hope the lady in the first image won!

Nice work...I imagine that the conditions would have been a nightmare....the lighting that is not the gals...
I think you have done a good job...the flash is a bit funny in some of them but its awfully hard to light that many people up in one sot...talking about the one where all the girls are on the couch...
the first one is my pic...and I was bit cheeky and had a little play just to see what would happen if i clicked the black eye dropper tool on the background near the girl in the greyish area...looks good btw...

The last thing I want to do is hurt you... but it's still on the list...

with the first pic, and shooting into them, they can make a nice glow around the subject, but i find it annoying when they are in direct view of the shot, so can try and move around, get an angle that the subject is blocking them, giving them an outline and/or they arn't in view.
in the pic with the group of the girls sitting around, their eyeballs are all over the place... my guess is other phots and/or friends/family taking pics...
take control, get their attention and keep it until you are satisfied, so they are concentrating on you and your camera and not jodie with the p&s gettin a happy snap for mum...
thats all i have to say, hope it helps in the future.

Nah, she didn't win... actually didn't even make the final 4. It was a really close contest, with only a few points seperating all the girls.
Here are the winners:
All the shots were taken with teh sb800 on top, I am definately not brave enough to be underexposing iso400 in conditions like that with teh d200.
Will have to be more demanding with there attention, as it obviously didn't take much for them to be distracted...
Thank you for the comments everyone.

Nice effort in tough club conditions!
in the shot #2, is that two girls making out in the foreground??
I like the framing on the final 4 shot, with the pic on the wall well included in the subject.
Interested to know how you put this together, as it would be great to host such an event as a fund raiser here in melbourne.

Fark! I forgot to go! Oh well, I'll go to heat 2.
I really like the stage ones, the light looks the goods. Did you use the diffuser?
Only crit I have is that the 3rd one should have been bounced to give more even light over the group of girls.
Other than that. Great work!

Alan, she may not have won, but she won me over
