Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Lake Dobson, in Tasmania

Took these images on the weekend at Lake Dobson in Tasmania.

Parts of the lake had a thin layer of ice across it.

No ice showing in this corner of the lake.

I'm not sure which works better, landscape

or portrait

I like the portrait much more than the landscape orientation on the last one.

Wow, that looks a nice place to visit in Winter.

I too prefer the portrait version. It is better composed.

Thanks Glamy and Steve. Steve, I would have thought a Hobartian would have seen Lake Dobson in winter.

My wife and I are planning some a longer circuit walk in Mt Field National Park. There are literally hundreds of small lakes to be found and photographed. Only trouble is it's a 6 hour circuit walk we are planning and our photography strolls usually take 2 - 3 times as long as a straight out walk. Could be a cold night.

Cheers

I don't get to visit 'home' very often, although I will be in Hobart next week. It's too wet and cold here in Nowra. :)

But don't worry, when i move permanently i will visit everything Tasmania has to offer and photograph it, if i haven't already.

Maybe we could have a Tassie minimeet sometime over Christmas period. i will make sure i am home then.

The best thing about Tasmania, is the contrast between summer and winter, in the same location. I reckon that Lake Dobson is an fine example of that. It is such so fortunate that Tasmania has a fantastic weather contrast, where this can happen. It's not something that happens any where on the Mainland, except maybe Thredbo area, where there is such a large difference in climates throughout the year.

Steve, that sounds like an excellent idea. If you let me know some dates closer to Christmas, I'll start getting something organised.

I normally don't like Portrait shots but have to agree with the rest, Portrait is the better of the two.
