#1 would be great with a tighter crop.
#4 is the strongest panning wise, but #5 tells the best story of the set I think. The lift on it is great, hard to say from this angle but it looks to be torqued over on an angle too...

thanks guys.

my shots mostly need straightening a few degrees, as i find it hard to get the angle right at the time. i usually crop them lightly. i kind of fell like i'm cheating or something if i crop them too much, if that makes sense.

cheers..

Beautiful panning, especially #4. #1 looks like you had a bit of a focus issue, the barrier is in focus and the car isn't.

thanks mate.

your right about #1. i had my shutter set on 1/320s for the panning, and wasn't expecting a fireball, so just fired off a shot, but the shutter was obviously a bit slow to freeze the car :)

awesome shots, out of interest where are you positioning your AF mark, front middle or rear of the car?

cheers, michael.

i use the continuous focus mode and set it to 'closest subject' which picks a focus area automatically. i try to to fill the frame with the car(s) so i don't have to crop them :)

All good pics James. As has been said, #1 is not the best shot and could do with a good crop - but, all in all, very good job. From #2 to #5 there are some great shots - I'd probably pick #4 and #5 as my favs.

Well done.

Cheers, Mick :) :) :)

nice work there, not an easy task with the speeds they are at and in such a short space of time as well. btw the dodge in #5 is in this months issue of street machine :D

I'd try not to use the closest subject, as the car is not always the closest subject, go for centre point.

When you upgrage to a d200 ( ;) ) you should use the wide centre point, it's perfect for panning! :D
