Venice Carnivale pt1

it was actually my mums idea as soon as she found out i was going to Milan she insisted we visit venice together for carnivale
It was amazing Venice at its most magical 10 days of celebrations leadign towards lent, venetians and visitors dress up in costume parading through the streets of venice

the weather was great for winter
Image

fill flash, this couple were dressed in theme i think sun and autumn

this is my mum she is a designer and couturist, she designed her own venetian ball gown and made it, she also made one for me well not a gown but a costume, but i'll show you those pics later
Now i know why mum wanted to come with me she wanted me to shoot her and her creation amidst a venetian backdrop...mums

more to come

Wendell

As you know I'm not a major fan of your fashion stuff (I think it stifles your creativity a little) so I look forward to stuff like this where you have free reign.

These are awesome work. Fantastic vibrant colours with quirky and interesting subjects.

I think #1 is the weakest (I'd have liked the person a bit more OOF)

On the other hand, the one of your mum's is a corker with that great red white & blue colour combo - definitely my pick here.

#2 could probably benefit from some dodging in the lower right corner to compensate for the lack of fill flash there

Of course these are all tiny quibles

Thanks for sharing these beauties.
Peter

Wow wendell, this these are awesome and a great departure from your more usual fashion work. Can't wait to see more of your shots from this event. Plenty of character in these shots.

Fantastic, Wendell. No 2 - 4 are just stunning. Beautiful colours, excellently executed. They look as if shot in a studio - excellent control of light!

Alex

P.s. Mum's dress is fantastic also.

thanks people

i appreciate it

I loved Venice Carnivale, lots of people think its corny but it has such a elegant format, period costumes in a magical place like venice, thats the ultimate photogenic mix

i have lots more to share

and peter thanks for continual recognition that my work has 'quikiness' to it that has always been a definitive aspect to my cocneptual work

and just for the record my fashion work is creative don't get fashion editorial(art directed shoots) confused with my press coverage work at fashion shows one is creative the other not so much so

Now we know where the creative genes come from :) Do you have anymore from Carnivale? Looks pretty funky and damn creative with the different outfits and masks.

My apologies Wnedell. You are correct - it's the art directed stuff that leaves me cold. Your backstage work, for example, is great.

Excellent work, Wendell. I love no 1 as the just OOF face, and black eyes give it a menacing look to it, well juxtaposed against the rose (which is yellow!). The last one is also fantastic.
