Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

Gidday,

My mother just returned from Alaska last month with this shot taken from her Canon A70.

I have PP the image and cropped it to 68 x 35 cm @ 200 DPI.

But I'm a little concerned about making a jpg file of 29 x 21 cm @ 180 DPI into a larger panorama to print.

What is the best way of cropping the photo to increase the image size for printing?

Warwick, beautiful. Try one of the scaling programs for upsizing it, I am sure someone with greater PP knowledge will make a suggestion.

Genuine Fractals has a trial version where you can use it 20 times for free.

The Fred Miranda upsizing program (Stair Interpolation?) is also supposed to be good. That said, I've never seen a direct comparison between those 2 and a simple upsize in PS. GF did a decent job turning a D70 file into a 30x20 inch print though :wink:

The photo is simply stunning, congrats to your Mum, it'll look fantastic printed large :D

I agree with Rooboy on GF or even Pixelscale, another program that will allow fairly lossless enlargement.

Gotta envy you mum 8) :D

That will be us this time next year - if we ever get around to booking our honeymoon... Need to do it soon.

I suppose you could upsize in Photoshop, apply a tiny bit of sharpening, and you're away!

Something that size, you will be viewing at a distance anyway, and it should still look great.

Sorry I don't know much about upsizing.
The photo is a cracker. My in-laws have also just returned from a cruise in Alaska. We have sat thru 10 packets of out of focus and badly exposed photos (disposable film camera). So I was really glad to see this picture as at least I know now what the photo's they were showing us were supposed to represent. :D
