Puffin AwayA couple of shots from my recent holiday.
Taken with the 70-300g @300mm. ![]() ![]() Any comments welcome. Thanks Craig Craig
Lifes journey is not to arrive at our grave in a well preserved body but, rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting, "Wow what a ride." D70s, D300, 70-300ED, 18-70 Kit Lens, Nikkor 105 Micro. Manfrotto 190Prob Ball head. SB800 x 2.
Very nice!
Puffins have such great bills, I prefer the profile shots. The eye contact is nice in the first, however the second is my pick. The second also looks a little cool, and I wonder if you could introduce a bit more contrast without losing the detail of the feathers on the back. Where were you? Scotland...?
Thanks guys.
The shots were taken at Sumbrugh Head, Shetland Isles. I was lucky to get these shots as the Puffins hang around on the cliff face near their nests. This fella just happend to be on top of the cliff about five metres from the tourist safety fence. He didn't hang around long after he noticed me, but I managed to get about 20 shots. Here is another one. ![]() Craig

Yes, a full report will be made over the next few weeks. There are nearly 4000 shots to PP or discard and business paperwork which needs bringing up to date. losfp Honeymoon. Don't think I would be a getting to many bird shots on my honeymoon. ![]() ![]() Steve Fairly happy with the performace of the lens, but still lust after something better. Craig Craig

Go the 70-300G!Really nice photos! Can't complain about the 70-300G
Great shots Craig, given the limitations of the lens. (I've got one too)
It's sharper around 200mm but that leaves us a bit short distance-wise in most situations. ![]() Simon

Nice shots Craig. The second is my pick as you can see that wonderful beak in profile and the outstretched wings add plenty of interest. What a beautiful bird.
Good capture Craig..... you are making that lens work......
Cheers ....bp....

Three very interesting pics of a fascinating subject. For me the newer posted image (#3) is the pic as you see more of the bird's face. I'd clone the flower lower left though ![]() Peter
