Fisheye Church

St Mary's Catholic Church Mudge is a lovely old church with lots of stained glass and a very obliging priest (who turned the lights on so we could all take better pics). The images below are all taken with the 10.5 DX fiesheye. All but the first have been partially defished.

To come later are some sample shots of the sublimely painted frescos on the walls and the stained glass.

Yuck, these shots are too good!

Peter, the first shot is so interesting since it is unusual but pleasing. The light and dark areas of the shots really stand out and gives it character. Nice

You are on fire at the moment, Peter! :D

I'm really enjoying all of your recent posts and this is no exception.

Wonderfully different perspective on the first one.

Peter - Although, technically, all 3 shots are very good (colour and sharpness) I find the perspective distortion to be too overpowering. This is not negative critique but to my mind one should be able to remember a place in its true perspective. Maybe defishing to a true W/A might do the trick.

Same here, echoing from Chris! FE is not a good look at that place & those photos.
Bring them to the WA.
Great colour and sharpness.

First and second shots are cool. Interesting to see what can be done with a fisheye.

Interesting Peter. Terrific colour rendition. Except for a little high on blue in #2 The symmetry is evident and pretty spot on. I would probably be tempted to blend exposures here to lighten the darker areas of the scene(pews ceiling etc) as I think its a tad dark where it counts.

I've also come to realise how important getting that balanced, symmetrical look is when using fisheye lenses. That, IMO, makes #1 a little harder to enjoy, and in this case I tend to agree with Chris and Birddog. :)

I agree with Marco on the symmetry. That aside, #1 is IMHO a fantastic use of the lens, with everything laid out like the inside of a particularly intriguing seashell.

Excellent use of the FE once again.

Canon 20D and a bunch of lovely L glass and a 580EX. Benro tripod. Manfrotto monopod. Lowepro and Crumpler bags. And a pair of Sigma teleconverters, and some Kenko tubes.

Thank you all for your feedback. For those who commented about liking to see some non FE shots of the church it saddens me to say I ran out of time before I had a chance to get my 12-24 out.

Hope you dont mind Peter, but this is what the Church looks like from outside.

As you can see, it's quite nice internally and externally.

I like the 2 one alot, the others are also great.

Were these interior photos taken hand held or with a tripod?

Andrew

That's a great shot of the church - I didn't get one even remotely as good.

These shots were all taken hand held.
