Magic Light - No tripod (bad combo)

When leaving Darling Harbour on Saturday the light from the sunset on the buildings was superb. Trouble was that, being so dark, I really needed a tripod and had none   This is the best I got taking them hand held - sadly there were heaps even blurrier than these. Both taken with the 24-120 VR lens. Click a pic for a larger version.

I really like the colour and the light captured in the first shot . Actually has a slight animated look to it which i like . The second ones a bit dark though but it still has a nice colour tone to it that flatters Darling harbour which during day light hours looks a bit sterile .

They look pretty good to me too. Love the colour of the sky in the first one, and the water in the second. It's a nice time of evening to capture the light on the buildings.

#1 is superb. The rounded surface of the building in the centre creates a nice gradient and adds a 3D element to prevent it from appearing flat.

Well done. VR - the tripod when you don't have one ;)

Love the colours and lighting in the first pic Stubbsy. The neon signs in the 2nd pic ruin the atmosphere of the pic.

Thank you all for your comments. I've printed these out and they actually look surprisingly good - especially the first one. I do want to get back there soon with a tripod though as I'd still like to have seen these sharper.

Matt - used PSCS noise filter to fix these and was surprised how well it worked

Daniel - you're right, if it wsn't for VR I'd have got none of these

Stubbsy, whilst I normally prefer architectural shots razor sharp, your first proves they don't need to be so and is a beautiful shot. Very nice

(maybe I can pick up Loz's 24-120 VR for a case of beer  )
