Awhile ago I read somewhere that photography was essentially using light to paint a picture, or painting with light. That really stuck with me and I wanted to experiment and give the old creativity a bit of a hammering last night. I literally painted with light...not what Wendell did a while ago with the strobe light, but using what I had out in the streets (ie. streetlamps, building lights, etc) and came up with the following pics.
They're basic shapes to start of with, but I plan on revisiting it and hopefully come up with something cooler
Technique: I literally drew the shapes out with the camera. Passers-by would have been wondering what the nutter was doing waving the camera around
Also on a deeper level, I wanted to show that there's a rhythm to life - hence why i composed the pics to get a few other lights to reflect that.
Anyway, without further ado here are the results. Please free to critique or comment on them.

There's something worth working for in these. Don't let it go until you have a masterpiece.

What an inspired concept. Not only do the images work fantasically well, but I'm in awe of your creativity. The best I can do is point my camera at something that already exists and capture a pale imitaion of it's beauty. You've been able to point your camera at something that doesn't exist and conjure it from your imagination. How I wish I had that much art in my soul.

Wow, love the idea and the shots look great...
The stars are my favourite, though I love the way you can just see the building in 'miffy without ears'... it gives a lot of scope to experiment further and see what you come up with!!
I've tried a long exposure at night and 'painting' the scene with a handheld torch moved about in different ways... my shots were a mess, lol, but the friend I was with (whose idea it was) had some really good results... but I'd never thought of moving the camera itself before!
Love to see how you develop the concept!

Fantastic idea. I think you're on the right track with the stars and the hearts, like Matt K said there's some incredible potential here. I reckon that having some idea of the original scene (a la #3) also helps show that this isn't pure abstract work. Can't wait to see what you come up with.
For God's sake though, don't let anyone at Flickr find out or there'll be a plague (tilt-shift/shit, camera tossing etc) .

Thanks for the positive comments everyone I revisited the idea last night and starting to get the hang of it. At the same time, I' ve thought of a few more things to advance on this idea, but I'll work on them slowly

I've tried this before but didn't manage to achieve the clarity of yours. Also sucked at the whole getting the shape right thing.
Nice shots.
