Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

Is Arbutus. I took this picture recently and have fallen in love with it. There's something about a really nice arbutus tree. This one in particular, I keep going back to take it's picture. It's amazing how many different takes you can get of one object. The top picture suffers from mysterious banding, even after I darkened the sky, you can still see the bands running horizontal.

Sorry Dave, I did see it and meant to comment, but then got distracted trying to find out what Arbutus was

#1 is a beautiful image and should be hanging on your wall...
Cheers, John

Yayy! Comments.

The top most picture was

97 seconds
F7.1
ISO 200
13mm

I shined it with a flashlight as well from an angle, which gives the tree a little texture, as well as keeps the background dark from stray light.

I find that Nikon doesn't give really warm tones really well, even with WB adjustments, so I added an 81 warm filter at about 20%. I don't want the tones too warm, but I find the Nikon colouring a little bit purply blue for my tasts somehow.

Thanks for the comments guys.

A torch is a useful little object to have in your kit. Makes the tree look very interesting.

All great shots.

Dooda number one is outstanding, love it, and the banding is very hard to see even after you pointed it out. Lovely image. :D

Dave - I actually believe #2 is the outstanding shot but would clone out the leaves top right.

How long were the two people standing on the beach

That was me and another fellow, and we were down there for about 4 minutes before I came back up and clicked shut. It was kind of weird, the park was already closed, and there's generally no one there, it's a 2 kilometre or so walk to get here in Rainforest, so when I arrived I was surprised to see someone already there. I was a tad nervous, but approached him and he was quite likeable and we had a good chat. I was sort of pleased to see that we made it in the picture.

My problem with the second is the moonlight streaming into the top center. I actually tried to clone it out, but it's way too hard with the subtle tones of the sky, and all the branches in the way, so I didn't work on it too too hard. I'd like to go back and take it one more time, as well as test out some other ideas I had.

The first photo is just sublime Dave. The rest are simply great. I always love looking at your work and hope one day to produce results nearly as good as these.
