Fireworks were very good as always. Although they are a pain to photograph.

Hi Pharmer,
Thanks. I'm not sure I've got the technique yet. A lot of it is luck. I'm getting about 10% nice shots. No use of cloth or card. I just use bulb mode and try and start and stop at the right times. It's surprising how short you have to leave the shutter open. I must have been doing only 6-10 seconds. Becase the fireworks keep bursting in the same places, it is easy to just end up with blown hilight blobs. I kept moving between f/14-f/18, mostly on f/16. It's surprising how different fireworks output different amounts of light. Daniel Nikon D4, D2Xs, D70, Nikkors and Sigmas lenses from 10 to 400mm

It does make it easier. I had to keep to a wide angle to get everything in. ![]() Daniel Nikon D4, D2Xs, D70, Nikkors and Sigmas lenses from 10 to 400mm

Hi wendellt,
Thank you. I'm glad you think so. ![]() ![]() (I keep finding myself backing off the exposure a bit. It's rare that I ever leave it set to zero. Do other people find this too?)
I was lucky there. I just met up with friends who had a reasonable spot. If the catering vans turned their lights off, it would have been perfect. ![]() Daniel Nikon D4, D2Xs, D70, Nikkors and Sigmas lenses from 10 to 400mm

As far as firework images go, these are top quality. I wish mine come out that good.

Thank you.
Thanks. It makes it hard to practice when they only occur at Australia Day and New Year's Eve. You get about 15 minutes a year to take these shots. Daniel Nikon D4, D2Xs, D70, Nikkors and Sigmas lenses from 10 to 400mm
