D2h + 80-200mm F2.8 - Using grad-tobacco filter on top and grad-blue on bottom both held by hand in front of the lens. (Was going to do an IR as well but ran out of time. Maybe next time.)

It's meant to, the real trick is making come back up in a timely manner.... ![]() 2x D700, 2x D2h, lenses, speedlights, studio, pelican cases, tripods, monopods, patridges, pear trees etc etc

They're not, they are lining up to get below deck, it goes in order of rank, the most junior member is at the end of the line...

If they don't sink they are in a lot of trouble ![]() Apart from early teething problems they are now a very efficient war machine. In exercises, the US navy has limiteds their operational description so they cannot "sink" too many US warships. They have a few aircraft carrier scalps on their masts already. Very embarrassing for the most powerful navy in the world to lose a fleet flagships to a bargain basement, diesel powered, noisy, antique.
btw,
in terms of critique, I like the graduated filter effect. you could have improved this if you could have shot from a slightly higher level. this would have allowed for a better seperation between the sub and the land. not to mention showing the masts better. steve check out my image gallery @

The only reason that happened was because the Americans sonar reported the noise to be a pod of copulating whales - good decoy manufacturing antiques ![]() Chris

Thanks all for the comments.
Firstly, NO, it's NOT sinking. ![]() As Dug said, the Collins Class is now a very capable war machine since the bugs have been sorted out with the noise and fire control issues of the early days. Steve (Avkomp) - I couldn't get any higher as i was on 04 deck of my ship already. Next step up would be a helicopter ![]() Dug - I am a photographer, not a terrorist. ![]() Steve.

Steve... I like the shot alot... interesting use of filters....
cheers http://www.markcrossphotography.com - A camera, glass, and some light.
Nice shot under the circumstances... thinking that they are probably just stuck in the mud and working out how to get out??? Or maybe drawing straws on who is taking the crows nest position before they dive???
I like the shot, and intersting use of two filters.
I have to admit when I read tobacco filter, I was wondering.. I thougth for a second you where using the tranparent wrapper of a pack of ciggies as a filter... then I realise I was stupid.
I figured you were already on 04 deck, was just a comment.
used to work for the navy and then adi. while ago now though. communications initially but computers and radar later Steve check out my image gallery @
