good first post.
I like how all the seagulls seem suspended in mid air. I would be tempted to clone the larger OOF one out of the foreground on the Lhs though. Steve check out my image gallery @

Fantastic shot!
If you're feeling artistic I'd like to see what the image would like like with the bird catching the chip also in colour (leaving the rest how they are) Might look crap but I'd like to see it anyway ![]() Paul http://www.australiandigitalphotography.com
Living in poverty due to my addiction to NIKON... Is there a clinic that can help me?
Really interesting and very artfully presented. I'd agree about it being stronger with the OOF seagull removed.
Indeed I did! ![]() And you (and other lurking OCAUers) will probably see some more familiar stuff as I unleash my pics on the poor unsuspecting folks in this forum! ![]() "You don't take a photograph, you make it." ~ Ansel Adams
I did tinker with that idea when I was first processing the shot, but since gulls are mostly b&w anyway (well, apart from beak and feet) I just ended up converting the whole image to b&w, bar the chip. I've had a few comments about the chip looking fake or like it has been photo-shopped in, but it's real. It took me a whole damn bag full of chips to get that shot! ![]() "You don't take a photograph, you make it." ~ Ansel Adams
Thanks for the comments so far.
I have cloned out the offending animal in question. Poor bird... never knew what hit him... ![]() http://www.westcoast-photography.com/pi ... pClone.jpg "You don't take a photograph, you make it." ~ Ansel Adams
works for me. although a slightly different crop may work better now.

Yup. It looks unbalanced and a little "empty" now. I might go back to the original and do a tighter crop - will see how that works out. Cheers! "You don't take a photograph, you make it." ~ Ansel Adams
another cheating thing you might try could be to clone a bird or two from another frame into the void.

Top shot. Great anticipation . Great contrast with the selective colours.

I like the second shot with the large OOF bird gone. The openess and asemmitry is exceptional. You turned a quite good shot into a real winner. Do Not fill that newly opened space. One of the best shots of this type I've seen in a very long time.

Welcome to posting pics on forum! I posted my first one yesterday as well and its great to get critique back. Your seagulls shot is fantastic and I can appreciate how hard it is to get a good shot while birds are flying. Like many others, I prefer version no. 2 with the OOF gull removed. Must admit, I also thought the chip was added in.
Great first posting, Westcoast Michael
