FRED BARE pt2 1.7mb

o.k after all studio shots had to find a way to merge them with the outdoor scenes so i came up with concept #3take Infra red stock shots of outdoor location, infra red making things look wintery and then etching out studio shots and superimposing them on the IR composite, effect looks cutout regardless of the flawless deep etch technique but the overall final image still looks kind of wintery dreamy and surreal or hyper real which was part of the concept anyway, however concept #3 killed off cocnept #2 which i was quite fond off more on that later
here are the final results

storyline showing original IR, cleaned up and then studio shot etched and superimposed



because of limited time could not treat all 28 choosen studio shots, so only did this effect to a selection















client salvaged art direction from concept #2 after much debate, one of my fav images, it just shows off the fashion in a wonderful playful way


my absolute fav image, client decided to crop off girl smiling which is half the image, such is life


boys shoot was different alltogether except for the 1 IR image shown above juist to tie in the boys with the rest of the catalogue art direction
will post boys images later

fred bare catalogue out now at fashion outlets and grace brothers, david jones. Note: i did not do the david jones fred bare catalogue which is done by saatchi and saatchi, just look out for the 'FRED BARE' brand catalogue with my images in it thats mywork.

all in all a wonderful experience the kids were fun, client purrfect and i got initial total creative control so i'm stoked, hopefully next shoot will be with much older female models.

EXCELLENT stuff, Wendell that is amazing work. I was impressed by the originals but I really like what you've done merging the shots together, excellent stuff! A few of them are absolute standouts, but all of them are a very high standard, can't wait to see them in print Wendell. Well done!

I know Mathew Hartland who is the Fred Bare importer and distributor.
Was he or his company involved in the photoshoot..??
Also what equipment did you use..??
I have seen previous Fred Bare catalogues and the photography is always great, much better than most catalogues. Did you work on any previous catalogues..??

I don't wish to put a "fly in the ointment" but if you use iconic images such as the Harbour Bridge or the Opera House for commercial purposes, aren't you supposed to get permission from the NSW government and pay a (probably) large fee?

I'm sure this has been discussed here before. Perhaps one of the wiser heads here may have more specific information..

These set of images really show off your talent well. It makes all your gear issues diminish in importance (maybe it's worthwhile mentioning that the majority of images were shot with the Nikkor 12-24?!).

I love this technique and you did a great job!
Works well on cars for the car buffs too, especially if you have a car with a striking colour. I did a similar effect with a "devil yellow" 2002 Monaro.

I worked directly with the owners of Fred Bare Fiona Sinclair Head Designer and Robert Sinclair owner Whiteline Fashion label that owns Fred Bare and Hula Girl, my mum works for them so that's how i got the contact, but i still had to proove to them i had the vision to get their work.

equipment:

D2X
nikon 12-24DX at 24mm constant F4
Light meter
Portable Strobe light with on location batery pack don't know which brand i'd say around $2K price range nothing fancy, i rented the thing
1 snoot hood for strobe
portable backdrop stands and white backdrop all cheap studio equipment
SB800 + SC28 remote cord
the rest innovation and ingenuity
some portrait closeups were done with the 70-200VR but the 12-24DX is kick ass sharp with studio lighting

this is my 1st fully in control photoshoot, i have been on many other commercial shoots just as a bystander or assistant, most pros prefer available light with reflectors i prefer the strobe light/s to get contrasty modeling effects

thanks all red tape and legals taken care of client it costs $3000 to get a shooting permit for lady macquaries chair, this is s afully pro shoot and legals model release forms signed and in order, brochure produiced therefore internet images now distributed, i wasn't abel to release this post last year when i finished the shot because of an NDA.
