Forgotten Froggy

Here's a shot I took ages ago while frogging with BlacknStormy and Damian (who kept his clothes on the whole time, I might add).

I love these little guys. This one's only about a centimetre long, brought to life by BlacknStormy's 105mm Micro lens.

Comments appreciated.. :)

Simon - fantastically sharp image - the small thumbnail you've posted just doesn't do justice to this.

How could you lose this pic? - It's great!
You've done a great job of not blowing the highlights on his/her shiny skin. I wonder if froggy had to pay extra for metallic paint?

Hi K - thanks for the comments. No real trick in not blowing the highlights - just keep the meter running and use a Lightsphere to diffuse the flash. The old plastic beer cup comes in very handy with these shiny surfaces. I don't think Narelle ever takes a flash shot without it!

Excellent capture Manta.

Nice and simple. A vertical (portrait) crop might add to the composition a bit, perhaps - make it a bit stronger.

But as is, a great shot.

Where do you guys go frogging?

Canon 20D and a bunch of lovely L glass and a 580EX. Benro tripod. Manfrotto monopod. Lowepro and Crumpler bags. And a pair of Sigma teleconverters, and some Kenko tubes.

Hey thanks big guy. I'll try the vertical but I specifically wanted some room on the side for this one so that's why I stayed with the original composition. You'll have to come with us sometime - this one was taken at the Wellington Point Constructed Wetlands after we'd had a pretty poor night at Cleveland's Black Swamp.

Glad you like it Mark but I wouldn't be too worried - you got to play with that lovely 200mm job of Kevin's!

That is true - it might look a bit odd framing too close to where the frog is 'looking'.

You'll have to come with us sometime - this one was taken at the Wellington Point Constructed Wetlands after we'd had a pretty poor night at Cleveland's Black Swamp.

Would love to! Pop it in the QLD section next time you guys are off 8) I'll bring the 20D, 100 macro, 580EX and LS PJ ...

Don't know about advertising it too far and wide - these trips are usually as part of the guys' studies or work and too many people along could spoil the result. Plus, swamps at night are not everyone's cup of tea....

Very nice framing and comp! The frog has an irridescence or metallic sheen which really stands out against the black background

Well Done :!:

Gee this is sharp as a tack, great detail and natural color... Good froggy shot!

On the Nat Geo (.au) site, if you join up you can post images in the "members gallery", dunno if they are reviewed for potential inclusion anywhere but it's all good fun :)
