New Years Day Fires. Woy Woy.

Just after lunch, power went out.
Many of you may have seen the helicopter shot of my mate Charles on his roof, watering it as the house next door went up.

The first thing that I could think of when the helicopter was going over was that it was a pity I didn't have time to make a "Happy New Year" sign.



While things were getting more than a little warm, I threw Charles' D100 up to him on the roof.

This is what he could see.

What I learned from fires in Bundaberg and Canberra. Don't leave your house if you want to come back to it.

Whiz a good result for you, however some fires you cannot stop and it is wise to evacuate.

Well, I come from Bundaberg. Sugar cane got burnt around our entire house every year I was there for 19 Years.

Remember the Canberra fires 2001?

A few lessons were learnt there.

Statistically 83 percent of people who stay behind SAVE their houses.

If we had left at the start, his house would have gone up. Absolutely no doubt about that. I only helped him move in two months ago. Damned if I was going to see him abandon it.

We had adequate preparations, knowledge, experience and support from ourselves and neighbors on two sides.

If we'd had a pool and power pump we could most probably have saved the pictured burning house from getting anywhere near the point where it did.

We also saved three other houses.

Leave when you need to, but assess the situation carefully.
