Some Kiama Images

Postby HappyFotographer on Mon Jan 02, 2006 10:28 pm

Have finally started to process some of the holiday pictures.

This lot were taken at the Blow Hole at Kiama. Got up at 4:30 in the morning to catch a sunrise. It was dark, cold and very, very windy.

Please let me know what you think of this lot.

Deb,

Very nice. Love the first two. The last two are a tad too dark for my taste, although the last one has something very attractive to it.

Deb - it was worth getting up early. The first two are great, in particular #2. The third pic with the light reflecting from the seat of the bench is wonderful.

thanks Alex and Chris

I have to admit Chris, when I got up there, and it was soooo dark and cold, I wasn't sure I made the right choice. I did get a couple I was happy with, so not all lost.

cheers

Hi Deb,
I particularly like the stairs. Not something I would have thought of doing.

Hi Deb,

These are very good, especially the first 2. Both have a striking simplicity that I find very appealing.

The 2nd shot is simply superb. Composition and lighting is excellent, turning the ordinary into the extraordinary. I wish I'd done that.

Thanks for looking.

I like the stairs myself, my husband was surprised to learn it was one of mine when he saw it

It's nice to get something right every now and then.

No.2 is my fav also.

No. 3 with just 1 chair would have been nice, sort of alone on a new day.

My 2 cents

Love number two :D Any chance that you could clone out the light at the top of the stairs? Oddly it appears out of place.

I love the lighting on the stairs and also like the last one, but I'd prefer to be closer to the person on the top.

Excellent idea Matt, maybe when I go back this Christmas I will have another go.

Will have a go at this later just to see what it looks like. :)

It's actually a beacon on top of the rock. I have been thinking of revisiting this one and lightening it up a bit, it is a tad dark.

thanks for commenting, each bit helps.

Deb

You're getting good aren't you. The fiirst two are my faves - especially the stairs which has a beautiful minimalsim. Would look great on your wall.

Ahhh Stubbsy you old Devil you Image I think it was more like I had some time to myself (even if I had to get up at 4:30 to do so) and I love the beach, I grew up on one and it was just like coming home.

Thank you, and yes, I really like these two and will most likely print and hang them.

take care

great series...

#1, tempted to crop a smidge off the top to raise the horizon as the sky doesn't have much above the light cloud formation... Might force the attention more to the interesting shoreline...?

#2, This is really catching, yep I'd clone out the light as that's the first thing I looked at...

#3, This has such a lonely feel, nicely done, not sure about how the second "seat" is jutting out of the first, agree with Matt about having just the one chair to reinforce that lonely feeling...

#4, Again I'd be tempted to crop some off the top...

These caught my eye, especially the stairs and the lonely bench seats... It was worth getting up early, tis the best time of the day :)

Deb it was most certainly worth braving the early morning air. Very strong images. #2 is my favourite. I'd be tempted to even burn out the hint of a rail in the middle and top right of the image. Beautiful work.

Like #1 but its full imapct is denied, IMO, because of the strength of presence of that tear of light in the sky. It seems to compete a little too much rather than complement that splash of white wave. Still a beautiful image.

#3 Including the rest of the foreground bench would, IMO, strengthen the composition.

#4 primarily the black spots to the left. Don't know whether birds or dust spots. either way should be clonbed out they're too distracting. This for me is the weakest in a very strong series Deb. Well done. :)

cheers
