A bottle or two ?

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

A bottle or two ?

Postby Alpha_7 on Wed Dec 21, 2005 12:20 pm

Taken minutes before we left for the Xmas Party last friday.. I just grabbed the bottle and took 3 shots... two were worth posting..
I'm not 100% happy but for a spare of the moment shot I think the have a cool element to them that may work with a revisit.

Straight from camera.

Hey Craig, how about the post-christmas party shot? Where the bottle is out of focus and tilted ;)

They would be my tragic photos of the wine cooler and the water I tipped over myself... I have them around somewhere...

Ok, here's my 2 cents as I guess these photos are posted for critique rather than just showing?

Usually photos posted "straight out of the camera" like these will need some adjustments, so instantly there'll be comments about boosting contrast, sharpening, and maybe some colour adjustment. I'm going to skip these, though these photos need all those things. :)

Now, was it your intention to photograph the bottle? Or bottle with famous landmarks in the background? It seems the latter. My eyes go between looking at the bottle, and looking at the background. If that's what you want, then look at the background when you take your shot. If you do want to do a reshoot, look for anything that might make your background look ugly, like pipes and fences. ;) When they put the photos of the city behind news readers on the nightly news, you won't see things like that. :)

With your recent (successful) experience shooting the glasses with jelly, why not do a studio set up to photograph a bottle? With a plain background too. :)

Thanks for the feedback, Doug to answer you question... Yes it was partially my aim to photography the bottle and the view, but it was also my aim to show it in context with our offices deck. While this may not be asthestically pleasing to some, as these are the lead up shots to the Xmas party, they put the bottle, the view and the office in context .. or so I thought... I'll take on your PP comments and see what I can do...
