Playing with PP

Inspired by NikonUser, I thought we could perhaps have a little fun and maybe even learn something along the way.

Below is a link to a photo I took a while ago. I thought it might be interesting to see what differences people see in the image, and how they would post-process it.

We have exercises in style, which directs us all to follow a similar theme, but the end results are always vastly different. I wonder what would happen if we were to use the same image, but apply our own style of processing...or creativity ?!?

Perhaps those that are interested can download this image and play around with it, then re-post it back into this thread (along with a brief description on what they did to the photo & how the did so).

I have saved the image with a max length of 800px and JPEG (100%). I know this is not ideal, but for the purposes of this exercise, we all live with the same limitations.

PP, copy into Pbrush, paste head (crudely cut out using laptops touch pad) save in Pbrush in Jpg mode.

Here is my little play.



Pp was desaturate, add layer, gaussian blur, grainy diffuse glow, punch out facial features.

Good to see some very different & creative ideas happening.
This was my take, I tried to keep it more realistic



PP info:
- clone bark underneath tree to remove the stick that looked like it went thru the boys neck
- mask boy and skateboard
- create 2 new layers, one for the boy & skate board, one for the background
- open Channel Mixer and select "monochrome", then used settings R:50%, G:30%, B:20% - to turn background into B&W
- selected t-shirt on boy, via quickmask tool, and then changed hue (via hue/saturation_ - to turn brown into blue
- merged layers together and ran Smart Sharpen over image.

Keep 'em coming....it's interesting to see what others do or see in the image !

Here's my quick attempt.



1) Copied Layer
2) Applied the Cartoon Action
3) Cut out the subject to leave cartoon character on the standard background
4) Applied the Pastel Action
5) Applied twice the colour to the character than the background

Thanks guys. My idea was for a ghoulish effect peeking through the mist. Nice call Alpha, wasn't thinking of it as ice but you're right. Always interesting how people have differing interpretations.

Your mist is very grainy. I'm sure the effect would be different with a finer-grained mist.
Also the "speed" at which his body disappears into the mist. Somehow it looks like the front of his face is poking out of it.

Mist or ice, it doesn't matter: it's an interesting result either way!
