A couple of shots from the last few days ...

Been busy moving, but I had a little time to head out and take some shots...

Late last night at Balmoral


Images were shot in RAW and converted using gimp and dcraw in linux because I have yet to set up my windoze box

I really like the late night one as well. Can you post the Exif Data ?

A couple of interesting shots #1 wonderfully vivid colour and a quirkiness to it. The selective focus is a great idea particularly with the unusual head tilt but the eye on the subject is not sharp enough. For a shot like this to work you need to nail that sharpness. Also the quirky glance of the bird tends to lead the viewers eye out of frame.
#2 I would have probably tried in B7W or sepia and less sharpening as the halo effect is quite evident. Good use of rails, bridge and pier lights to lead eyes into scene and to the building. Nice shot.

I'll see if they come back this week end, might be able to get some better / more shots.

I will give the B&W and Sepia a try and post them here once they are done, I'll also be a little more careful with sharpening, though I think that had more to do with the fact that I am not used to using gimp to convert images, I normally use capture

looks like there is a fair bit of jpg compression artifacts in both images after I have uploaded them to gallery, and I have lost some of the highlight details for the sepia one, but I think it was worth it for the overall effect ...

The night shot is terrific, assume the starburst light effect is from a small apertue, but have no idea what 80/10 means in the EXIF Really like the sepia effect, wondering about the loss of highlight detail though?

I didnt use a star filter, it was shot at f8 over 30 seconds, the program I used to extract the EXIF is in Linux and I think it didnt convert any of the data to make it easy to read.

As for the highlight loss, if you have a look at the B&W shot you should see a difference on the side of the shed.

Both shots are great! In particular, I really like the second shot and definitely prefer the original monochromatic version you posted to the subsequesnt B/W and sepia versions.

Yeah Dave the Sepia one is great, Pity the detail in the bridge boardwalk has been lost but overall I prefer the Sepia tone. Well done
