New toy to play with

My new 50mm f1.8 arived today so I've been having a quick play. Had to get one after seeing images others with this lens have produced. Also this lens lust hasn't resulted in wallet shock.

Looks good to me so far, more learning ahead.

And while I might be an old dog, this is definitely NOT a self portrait.

Thanks Bob. It feels so small after using the zoom lenses but the results are sweet.

I'm sure you'll enjoy yours when you get some playtime.

Your not wrong. Hard to beat for $150. Now I understand why so many members have this one in their arsenal. Can't wait to try some portraits with it.

John....you've just made up my mind for me :D
Do you know much about the 50 f1.4 compared to the 50 f1.8 ??

The price seems to jump significantly....

The jump to the 1.4 was too many $$$$ for me for justify for what I perceive a very small gain.

As Bob said, they're around $400. I'm putting the savings towards a vr lens down the track. Damn this lust. :(

If you can afford the 1.4 and surely, it's the way to go!
Nothing wrong with the 1.8, it can produce the sharp pics and do what you want within your limitations.
I have seen many (not one) members on this board sold their 1.8 and grab the 1.4 after few months in play, and they're right with their selection.

I was one of them. :)

I reckon the F1.8 is the best value lens Nikon makes. Sharp and fast and cheap. What more do you want? (Ok, maybe the Bokeh on teh 1.4 is more appealing, but that's purely personal judgment)
