3 reasons - references I read about how loud the leg clamps are on the 2227 - lighter - more stability Cheers, John

		Thank You
comparing the 1325 to the 1227LVL

differences= column 1325 no center column 1227LVL center column max height without column 1325 145cm 1227LVL 140cm lowest height 1325 aprox 10.7 cm 1227LVL 34cm closed length 1325 65cm 1227LVL 54cm weight 1325 2Kg 1227LVL 1.7Kg max load 1325 12kg 1227LVL 8kg so the question that would help me what factors influence you to go for one rather than the other? the 1325 doesnt come with the hook doesnt it? as it has no center column would it still stand steadily in windy conditions?
does your 1325 have a hook to hang weight for extra stability?

has it found to be stable in strongish winds with slow shutter speeds and big close ups? thanks

no its stable enough without any hook. When the weather turns bad I'm usually indoors next to the fire not outdoors freezing my nuts off
 huynhie,

You missed out the hook and it may caused inconveniece for you to have uncooked foods when you're camping The hook is required to hang your pot or other cooking utensils over the campfire as mentioned earlier on this thread Birddog114

I'll leave the pot and utensil carrying for my wife/sherpa

I guess you're missing the main feature of the 1227LVL and that is that the centre column has its own balljoint that allows you to level the tripod quickly without fiddling with the individual legs... That's the main reason that I opted for it... Also, given that you can reverse the centre column and suspend the camera underneath the tripod, I don't think that your minimum height figure is valid. Cheers, John

Like John I went for the 1227LVL as it has more of the versatility that I require. Markins M20 for the head.

Once we have enough people interested in the G1227LVL, we may organize a camping meet with campfire Birddog114

Gitzo basalt products have been posted here before with difference range but none of interested due to its weakness than the original design. Birddog114

I read somewhere that it's just fibre glass

No, it was manufatured from the ashes of vocalno something! and they're less sturdy than the carbon fibre product, they're cheaper than other. Birddog114

It's all well and good you guys having this gear in Sydney to play with, but are there any members in Melbourne who have a Markins head and/or a BH-55?

I'm tossing up between the BH-55 LR and a Markins (NQS as I don't like their clamp) with an RRS lever clamp. The end price will be similar, but whichever way I go I'd like to be sure I'm making the right decision. This is to go on a G1348 set of legs, BTW. My current tripod and monopod have Kirk clamps on Manfrotto heads, which they'll probably keep (although I'd like to put an RRS lever clamp on the monopod if I had spare cash...).

I don't think any Mebourne members have the RRS BH55Pro. Sydney members now have a handfull of the owner of BH55Pro. Kipper has the Markins 20 Birddog114

Dave I have the 1348 bh55 combo, if you need photos or measurements I can post whatever you need. Doesn't replace a good play though.

Birddy has both and prefers RRS, I looked at both and preferred RRS head. http://wolfeyes.com.au Tactical Torches - Tactical Flashlights Police torch rechargeable torch military torch police military HID surefire flashlight LED torch tactical torch rechargeable wolf eyes flashlight surefire torch wolf eyes tactical torchpolice torch
