WedgetailOn our recent trip to Central Australia, Mitedo and I came across numerous Wedgetail Eagles sitting on road kills. Stop and they would dissapear in a flash, drive slowly past and you had a chance. Not much of a chance mind you. This was the best that I could do.

Living in poverty due to my addiction to NIKON... Is there a clinic that can help me?
Oneput, great shot btw. They're quite a timid thing for their size. They don't mind soaring above you but when they're on the ground they tend to fly off if you're close by.

NikonUser, if you ever want to be taken out to where they soar and occasionally perch, let me know. The next time I go out to where they are will be with a 500MM + 1.4x Darryl (aka Kipper)

This was taken with the 70-200VR, but I might as well have used the kit lens, because in my haste to get the photo (having missed other opportunities) I left it sitting on 70mm

Terrific capture Oneputt. Those talons look pretty nasty.

Darryl we headed west from the Sunshine Coast to Birdsville then across the Simpson Desert to Poepels Corner then south down the K1 line track to Maree via Walkers Crossing. We went to Coober Pedy, Oodnadata, Moomba and many many other places. We drove the Birdsville. Oodnadata and Strezleki Tracks and had a blast.

We saw a lot of wedgies on road kill in the last 150 klms to Birdsville. Whilst we saw them in other places that is where they were thickest. "The good thing about meditation is that it makes doing nothing respectable"

Love that country myself. Did the Kimberley's a few years back. Now that's a fantastic part of Australia. By the way Oneputt, any shots taken with your 80-400VR? I'm interested to see how it performed out there for you and under what conditions you used it or refrained from using it? Just bought one from Birddog and haven't had the chance to really use it. Will be taking it up to the gulf country, Mitchell river area in about 2 weeks to try it.
