Having spent four years living in Dallas, I'm quite familiar with "y'all", and, of course, the plural version of it.

How are things in the Big Easy, one of my favourite cities in the world? I often tune in to WWOZ to listen to some great music, and I'm a past frequent visitor to N'Awlins, having attended many conferences there during the period 1994 - 1999.

As an aside, while I was living in Dallas I was often greeted with a remark to the effect that they "loved my accent, and where was I from?"One of my stock answers was that I was from the deep south.

Popeye's is trash (as I'm sure you know). House of the Rising Sun ... you're probably thinking of the Eric Burden (Animals) version, but it's actually quite an old song.

When you go there, the only decent place to visit on Bourbon St is right at the end of the strip - the Funcky Pirate - where you'll catch the blues as sung by Big Al.

When you get off Bourbon St, the Funcky Butt on Rampart has some of the best jazz in town, or else head to one of the Tipintinas venues.

FWIW, I have a new DVD here, just imported from Basin St Records - Los Hombres Calientes Live at the House Of Blues. These guys are simply awesome live, and this DVD isn't too bad a rendition of what they can do.

I have to concur with Gary here, Popeye's is a shadow of it's former self. It's nearly impossible to get really good chicken at a fast food joint.

My favorite fried chicken is at Crabby Jack's where the chef is Austin Leslie who used to own Chez Helene. (There was once a TV patterned after the Chez).

I digress unfortunately. The big easy is pretty much the same. It's a great place to visit, a good place to live, but a miserable place to make a living unless you are a lawyer or a doctor.

Photographic opportunities do abound here. You can't miss them, they are all over. The French Quarter, Uptown, Algiers Point, etc, etc, etc.

Dad (gstark) doesn't actually use it very often at all.
