Another regular visitor to my fence. Shallow DOF let this one down. Once again focussing in pitch darkness meant I missed the best focus point - the eyes. Seems the edge of the ears and the front foot was the sharpest point. Your comments are welcome.

Great catch though, I'd have no hope of getting focus that close in the dark, I have enough trouble in the light! Just missed his pinkies...

Use an SB800? Metering? Interested as it seems really nicely exposed...

Pinkies lost in original composition - I don't normally crop that badly! Next time I'll try for f8-11 to increase the sharpness overall.

woah! hand held 180mm at 60th sec. You got steady hands Simon. As said above nice exposure of a difficult shot. Well done.

The flash provide the steady hand! You'd struggle to move quicker than the fraction of a second the flash fires for!

I took some pics of Wallaby's and Kangaroo's the other day and had the same problem with the red eyes!

I like the image, Simon - and I think the shallow DOF isn't an issue.

Would you believe I was using a REALLY slow flash?
Don't know why I even mentioned handheld - I was very tired when I posted the image so maybe the brain was a bit numb. Sorry for the misinformation. Of course the flash is going to stop any movement. Congratulations Beetleboy - you passed my little test.
