Five-story pagoda
I took the photo of the five-story pagoda at Tōchō-ji Temple in the Hakata Ward of Fukuoka City, Japan. The temple was founded in 806 CE by the monk Kūkai and it is one of the oldest temples built by him in Japan. According to tradition, Kūkai or Kobo-daishi set up this temple for the eastward dissemination of Tantric Buddhism. The temple itself is associated with the famous Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival.
