I'm spending the weekend at the Australian Blues Music Festival, where there's a bit of music going down.

I'm actually MCing for several artists/sets, and catching up with some friends and some legends. The legends come later today; here's a few friends. These are OOC JPGs, resized and minimal sharpening through .... Irfranview. I'm using the Wind. WB was set to incandescant, stage lighting, about 1/80 and f/5.6 - f/8 on the D300 using the 85 f/1.4

I need to get the name of his harmonica player. As well as playing the normal blues harp, this guy was blowing a chromatic, and in so doing, blew the audience away.




Bill Crossland is a member here, and was on bass for Glen; that's him, OOF, on the left in this image.




Gail Page came and sat in for a few numbers.




Andy Thomas was on reeds.



Unfortunately, the placement of the drummer was less than ideal for getting images of him. While I grabbed a few shots of the keyboard player, they really some post (more than I can expect on the Wind) because of the (lack of) light that he was in.

Gary , of all your music shots you have posted over time I think number 1 is by far your best. It is sharp, conveys emotion and the light adds to the mood. Nice to see.

Great shots. You've captured the mood perfectly, particularly in #1, #3 & #4.

Takes me back to the early sixties and downstairs coffee shops around the Cross (AKA Kings X). Smoke filled, low light,
usually with a piano, slap bass and a drummer using only brushes.

Ahh, the good old days, although from memory the coffee was 'orrible!

I quite like #1, as Big V mentioned, it really conveys emotion and that what appeals to me here, the mood lighting also compliments Glen's facial expression. That 85mm 1.4 really rocks here!

No. 1 is definitely a winner here. You have captured a great moment displaying the efforts of the musician playing his heart out. THe lighting, composition and skin texture on his face are just superb.

I am going to go with No 2 - the composition, differential focus and lighting add to the atmosphere that one imagines was there: very cosy, intimate, and enjoyable.
