I have had mixed reviews on the crop of this photo, some like it, some don't... What do
YOU think?

i like the dof and sharpness, maybe a closer crop of it would be nice. remove more of the empty space and add something about the head.

Thanks for the feedback Redline...
I tried to go for the pano look (the original shows it a little better I think). Always good to try something different

I was concerned about the empty space to the right but then I thought maybe it could be taken that the bird was looking that way??? Maybe I was thinking to much

yeah, it a little different to do with your shot cos of the way you have the shoulder stick out.
maybe you could do the pano of the head to the beak? still have the og shot?

I think your right....
I was contemplating whether or not to get rid of the shoulder but then it would have cut the the bit under the beak out, so I went for the shoulder

Oh well, you shoot and learn...

Sorry Woody - leaves me cold - too much blank space and I find the tiny bit of body really annoying. Maybe could be improved by cloning out the body

				Woody,
Does nothing for me either.
Perhaps try cropping from just to the left of the back of the bird's head, so you have a less centralised image, with the bird, effectively, left looking to the image's rh side.

Sorry to have to say this woody but it is the subject for your crop that is all wrong IMO.
If you had a photo of ants on the rampage and cropped like you have with birdie then it would be fine.
BTW the bird is in beatutiful focus and because of this (plus the colour) IMHO it would have been better to see more of the bird

i do crop... but prefer to get the shot right in the frame if i can....
that being said, the crop above doesn't work for me... but that's just me... if it works for you that is all that matters imho....
the shot looks nice and sharp and the dof is great, if the rest of the shot is that well composed i wouldn't crop to that extreme...
cheers

				Thanks all,
It is good to get nohest opionons (not just nice one's)...
Besides the shoulder in the shot I still don't mind the crop personally bu tall your comments are very true...
I think I can build on the image with your input for next time.
Gary - I originally had the crop with the bird at the left side and then the empty space, but then thought it was to obvious (if you know what I mean) so I thought I would try nest and in the middle
