Some slightly different Pelican shotsSaw some pelicans while I was on a walk in Newcastle on the weekend. Most were a little too lazy to get their butts off the ground but a couple obliged for me

For me the first and last shots here are the standouts and achieve what you set out to do exceptionally well. They are sharp, well composed and not much beak in sight. The last one in particular captures the grace of these ungainly birds beautifully #2 and #3 - the second bird is a distraction and draws the eye too strongly (plus you chopped it's head off in #2). Agree - the second bird is a distraction, but the detail captured in the takeoffs is excellent. The wing 'formation' in the last is really intriguing, and the jump in the third is really unique.

Thanks for the feedback guys. They are pretty amazing in flight the sequence had a couple more shots with the birds curling their wings up to get ready for the downstroke.
Critique is much appreciated - I'll try cropping the second to see if I can get rid of the second bird altogether: ![]()
