Had 2 portraitures done on Sunday. Again done with friends but 2 different themes. This one, I tried to convey glamour, sexy and a bit of mystery

Bloody tiring. Started shooting at 8:30 and finish at 4:30. Couple more hours of PP.

C&C please if anyone has the time

i am no expert but i think number three has given me the impression of mystery and is sexy as well but like i said i am no expert. one and two really doesn't do anything for me and four i am drawn to the shadow behind her and take attention away from the subject

Incredible stuff Ron, you are aided here by a beautiful model. These are great shots. I find the head shadow on the wall in the 4th images a little off putting. This could be 'fixed' with some creative PP I think. The 3rd image is simply stunning. Thanks for sharing.

Zeddy, you said your not an expert so please don't comment....Nah just kidding ;). Nothing wrong with what you said mate. I like to take critique from varying levels of photographers in this forum and yours do help me.

Geoff, thanks mate, I might work on that shadow. In all honesty I should have actually posted more black and white one since I do find them more interesting in color. Might do so down the track

1st and 3rd one are great

love the lighting on the 1st and the styling on the 3rd
but most importantly the expression and the moment captured is divine
you must have real good people skills

you got talent there

3rd is fantastic,
#2 is cool the lighting just needs a little tweak IMO
#1 Very nice, perhaps something white to reflect back to lift the shadows a little
#4 The shadow on the wall is distracting and the lighting isn't the best.

But fantastic start mate.

The model certainly has a sexy and mysterious quality, for me there is some character in those gorgeous eyes that I would like to see brought out a little more. The lighting across the face in pics 1, 2 and 4 creates an unflattering shadow - the balance of light on either side of the face in pic 3 makes it the choice and does not cause distraction from those eyes. Perhaps a little PP to reduce the shiny reflections on the skin - but really a lovely set, congratulations.

Love the third - is there a colour version? How did that turn out?

First one I really like too, but the background is a bit distracting, mainly the black bar over her head, not so much the CD reflection which I think kind of works.

Excellent photos, and a beautiful model!

3 and 4 work for me and are fantastic, 1 and 2 seem too "forced" for my liking. Not the photos, but the model just seems as if she is trying too hard.

Ron,

Number three is the one of these.

On #1, your light on the model's back/shoulder is way too strong, and probably needs to be pulled back by one or two stops. Do you have the histogram for that image, and if so, can you post it? I expect that this problem should be evident there.

#2 almost works for me, but again, the lighting is a tad hot. Have a close look at this .... the model's left cheek is blown, and the lighting is obviously quite directional, coming predominately from that side.

But now have a look at her right hand, and you can see that there, too, the exposure has been blown.

I think less correction is needed here - maybe a half to a full stop of power - but on its own, that's not going to be the answer, because ATM the exposure on the rh side of her face is nailed, and reducing the power of your light source will affect that.

So ... pull the lighting back in power, and either add a reflector on the other side, or else raise the light's location so that it's not as directly from the one side - but that may not be the effect that you're seeking in this image.

hth.

From someone yet to try this type of thing, nice work. #3 is the obvious winner here and I would imagine the model will be thrilled with the result.

I really like the rest as well, even with the hot spots, though as Gary has said bringing those back a bit would make good great.

Only other thing that I noticed was the CD in the background in #1. Didn't notice it the first time and liked the image, but now I have it really distracts from the subject.

Cheers.

I guess I'm a little different from most of you guys, for me its number one, love the differential focus with both shoulders out of focus and soft lighting on the face. Not sure if longer focal length or shooting from slightly lower down might limit what may be a slightly pointy chin??? Also need to darken the left arm/shoulder.

I really like the tone of #3, perfect for skin and a nice colour for the leaf/petals.

Cool portraits, Ron. #3 is my favourite and then #1 is my other pick.

IMHO #3 is great in both versions. A crop of the dark foreground may be warranted.

Likewise IMHO #1 would look better with a tighter crop - especially above your lovely models head.

Well done Ron.

Cheers, Mick :) :) :)
