I've just got a couple of questions, would you (or others) mind answering them please?
1. are you using a black background?
2. is the room lit as normal with a fast shutter speed to as to not expose the room light?
3. umm ... tips please?
any help would be really appreciated!

Posted: Tue Jul 24, 2007 2:34 pmActually, these were shot at Sheepie's place on his backyard patio with the lights from the side of the home.
So if you want this sort of thing you probably want some harsh lighting from the one side with the darkened background. I can design a lighting set up like it when I get home from work (lunch break) if you want, but it shouldn't be hard to rig regardless.
Low aperture because of low light. The Sigma 30 1.4 is surprisingly good around 1.8-2.2 I've found, but I'll put up some of the original images when I get home if you want so you can see what they look like plus EXIF.
The black & white conversion is of my own making for one of the filters I use and it emulates the film I use to use (Agfa) and the process I used to use in the darkroom.

Matty, use this as an opportunity to say "to get this effect, you need to let me spend crazy dollars on more lenses". You never know!!!

great tip! But I'm already using that excuse to buy an ST-E2 ... wireless transmitter for the flash thingy.
Leigh - original images would be a great help! These are really nice photos.
