I attended the 10th China National Photography & Electrical Imaging Machinery and Technology Fair held at Bejing, China from June 28 to July 1 2007.

This is the biggest event in this field and so called China Photokina.

All key manufacturers are there and full of people all day.

Hey, I'm in Beijing at the moment at Traders Poon. Where is this event being held as I am here until Tuesday, perhaps I can get a chance to see it tomorrow.

Sorry I was back to Hong Kong late on midnight yesterday.
I spent two days in Beijing at Beijing Hotel.
Tomorrow is the last day and you should go there very early(9:00am-4:00pm).
People may leave earlier and better to go befor noon.

The place is in China International Exibition Center(CIEC).

Poon, thanx for the info. I have a meeting in the morning but will try to get there in the afternoon. I took off this afternoon in a cab to get a look at the Forbidden City and a few photos but the rain and traffic and fading light defeated me so had to turn around. Its difficult in strange cities to juggle opportunities.

One good thing I did find out when looking on the web for China "Photokina" was the work of Tom Carter (San Franciscan) who lives in Beijing and has photographed in every province in China over many years and published an 888 page book on his photographic journeys. Here is his site http://www.tomcarter.org/ for those who are interested, I think it is very well presented, and I know we are all interested in other work.

This has been a very frustrating period as I have the D200, the 18-200 (some say the stig of travel lens ) and in the past few weeks I have had the opportunity to go to Thailand and then last week Sydney (I love taking shots around Darling Harbour) and now Beijing and a combination of bad weather and work (Damn those Canons that can take pics in the dark at ISO 3200) I have been resorting to shots out of cabs and hotel rooms I thought I was going to start my new career as a travel photographer

So having such a big photo event on at the same time is a plus in my book.

Traffic in Beijing becomes a headache. It is a torture to live in such big cities as Beijing. 15 minutes drive can become more than one hour.

Yesterday morning I took a taxi from Beijing Hotel to exhibition and after I board the car, the taxi driver told me it will take 1-2 hours to be here and no exact arrival time. I did see all cars move like nail on the biggest road - Chang An Street.

Lucky the subway station just in front of the hotel and it took me 20 minutes to reach the nearest station and took me 10 minutes by taxi there to destination.

Beijing becomes a rich city and more and more people afford to buy cars but no improvement of the transportation.

Beijing may have problem in city planning.

She is the capital center(political center), commercial center, culture center and a big burden to the city.

Now another big burden is 2008 Beijing Olympic Game.

She can not handle well every part at the same time.

Agree with you Poon. But, today has been glorious, CLEAR skies first time ever for my companion in her trips here that she has seen the sky in a Beijing trip. I too wonder how they will cope with the Olympics after the airport experience the other day. This is way worse than Sydney Gary.

Have missed the Expo due to morning meeting and then business lunch but have spent the afternoon going through the Forbidden City (Magnificent!) closest thing I know is the Red Fort in Delhi and that is small by comparison. Off to Ho Hai (old part of city now) see if I can post some tourist shots later tonight. Cheers

Great to know Beijing has clear sky. I think that the rain cleaned the air.
Forbidden City is great. Few hours are not enough to see most of the thing.
You should try some different foods in Beijing.
Wish you a good stay in Beijing.
I will go to Beijing again on July 3 to join a HK delegation arranged by HK and China central government and will see some important person and one is the daughter of late Deng Xiao Ping.
