Heysen Trail in the Flinders - Part 1

A couple of weeks ago, I went for a walking tour on the Heysen Trail in the Flinders Ranges in South Australia. This was a supported trip so during the day, we only had to carry food, water and camera gear. We were also accompanied by a professional photograher.

This trip would be best described as a walking holiday with some photography. We would walk on average about 15km per day, each day. This meant some early starts and it gets cold over there  We slept in swags every night with an amazing Milky Way. Some nights I just went to sleep with my glasses on 8)

We would normally have camp next to a dry creek bed. Those creeks had some beautiful gum trees along them. Here are some close to sunset.

Typical road we travelled on and that's our troopie :D

Lots of ruins along the way. This is the old homestead of Kanyaka. Basically, there wasn't enough water to have agriculture so a lot of these towns or stations would fail.

At the end of the trip, it's always nice to finish with one of the local ales
:D . This one is the Fargher Lager in Parachilna.

I'll post some more as I get them processed.

C&C much appreciated.

Cheers,

André

Wayne,

those gum trees around sunset tended to be just beautiful. I've got various combinations over the days that I was there, just have to decide which one I like most.

Rob, it is a get place to walk. As you say, Parachilna to Wilpena Pound is very special. You have done well to have done the 600kms, we only did about 85kms over the week.

Cheers,

André

Hey Radar

What a magical place the Flinders Ranges are. We spent a couple of weeks around that area travelling up through to the Gammon Ranges and Arkaroola. Your photos bring back some memories that will stay with me for a very long time. I'm sure we will return sooner rather than later. After Cape York next year will start planning a loop from here through Flinders to Dalhousie Springs and back across the Simpson.

Totally agree Ben, great spot. The top one is actually in the Gammon Ranges at Weetootla Gorge.

Sounds you have the travel bug but I'm sure you have been diagnosed already

André

Like the others #1 appeals to me, but I think that 4th image is a cracker too. It screams cold beer after a dry hot day to me.
