This photo was taken at the Kalalau Lookout on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. The lookout is over only one of the valleys of the Na Pali coastline.
I would have like to have had some more high level cloud but unfortunately it wasn't to be.

The image itself is a 9 exposure HDR processed with photomatix. Shot with D200 + Tokina 12-24mm (at 12mm).

I wasn't quite sure as to how it was going to turn out when I took the pictures but I am very pleased with the end result.

Currently have put it up as my desktop background and plan to print a large canvas of it.

Here's another from a slightly different perspective from earlier in the afternoon.

Any chance of seeing one of the individual exposures? Just to see what kind of light you were dealing with.

Do you need to change settings manually, or are the exposures set with bracketing? Keen to do a HDR myself

yeah, nice You've nailed this one. I would have preferred less sky and more foreground though. That doesn't detract from your image though

Harry, here is a composite with the 9 exposures:



Pehpsi, I just used bracketing with a 1 stop difference between the exposures. The important thing is to keep the tripod as still as possible. Unfortunately I didn't have a cable release for the slower exposures.
The images were then combined with the photomatix program (I think you can get it as a trial). I then imported the resulting image into photoshop for a bit of a tidy up.

I shoot in RAW and had been converting the files to JPG before using photomatix. But I have just tried the program again it does indeed recognise Nikon RAW. Its also has Canon/ Fuji RAW and TIF listed as other file formats recognised. So its looks like you've saved myself a step.
