Went out to the AFL match between Western Bulldogs and the mighty Bloods on the weekend in Canberra. It's always nice going out to Manuka Oval (apart from when it is frickin' freezing). It's often a very casual feel, and it is MUCH easier to sneak down to the fence to take photos. Was a bit restricted though as I could only get a spot where a pole or a security person or one of the official photographers with his 1D Mk II and 400/4 were blocking 50% of my view.
Got a few decent ones whose curves were appropriately smashed into submission in Bibble as the shadows were pretty harsh that time of day....
Adam Goodes going for a trademark run down the wing
Micky O'Loughlin takes a good grab behind his opponent
Jude Bolton lays a tackle
Any thoughts, suggestions? These were all taken with the 70-200VR w/ 1.7TC. I find it doesn't focus quite as fast as the 70-200VR on its own, but still no slouch either. The extra length is nice to have though.

Good results and nice colours..given that you did not have free reign as to where you could position yourself the results are very good.

#1 is excellent, might be worth trying to pull a bit more detail from the shadows (on him, not so much the background). Nice work Des, would look great printed & hung alongside some premiership memorabilia
Off topic: 6 in a row!!!!!!!!!! Nice to be a game clear of the Swannies
So join in the chorus, and sing it one and all!

Thanks guys! I realise that shooting sports is such a lottery.. So many things can combine to turn a potentially great shot into one that's not QUITE right. So it is always nice to come out of each shoot with at least 1-2 great shots.
Michael yes the Swans did win, by 43 points (big surprise to me, I was expecting quite a tough contest).
Pat and Kris, I admit I was thinking of you guys during the North / Sydney game. Same reason I hate Sydney / Geelong games.. Nothing worse than losing to your other half's team and having to endure the crap for the next 8 months

I don't know about anyone else but these shots look a bit flat on my screen. Seems like more contrast needed.
