Here are a couple of images. Those pigeons take off pretty fast.

S5Pro - 12-24mm lens
Focal length : 12.0mm (35mm equivalent: 18mm)
Exposure time : 0.0010 s (1/1000)
Aperture : f/4.0
Image

S5 - 200mm lens
Focal length : 200.0mm (35mm equivalent: 300mm)
Exposure time : 0.0080 s (1/125)
Aperture : f/2.0
Image

Basically right out of the camera. B&W conversion done in Aperture.

Beautiful images Andrew, that 2nd one is sure to make many laugh.
Incidently, how do you find Aperture?

That second image is an absolute speccy. In fact, I missed it originally - I only saw the kissing couple and thought that the pic was quite average.

But on revisiting - three different expressions on three different faces - all classic.

But the boy on the end is an absolute pearler. It just makes me laugh.

This is what photography is all about IMO. Something that moves you to tears, laughter - in fact any emotion.

What a beauty! :D

What a classic shot (#2)!

#1 is so well-timed.

As always, very impressive stuff.

:agree:

#2 is great. I could imagine what that little boy is thinking / saying ... "Ohhh Grosssss. Look at that! He'll get girl germs" ...

A great capture. Certainly gave me a chuckle when I saw it.

They'd be doves wouldn't they? ;)

Seriously though ... #2 is an absolutely classic shot! Those expressions are just priceless! :D

Yeah doves i guess. All I know is a blink and they're goooone....

Yeah that little guy is like; yuk, girl germs....

In reflection one thing I could have gone better for the second one is lift the ISO a bit to get a little more background. Even though it would have been OOF i think it would have been more visually pleasurable... maybe..

I think you will find the medical term is Cooties (not sure of the latin name for it).

Anyway, lovely photos - the kids' expressions are priceless, however, the only thing that comes to mind is perhaps getting more of the kissing couple in frame? Anyway, the exposure of the white and black looks pretty spot on.

Cheers

Great images

#1 could have been better if there was more scene, you must have been stand very close?

#2 Nice expression, agree with the bottom comment

Great images Andrew. They're both going to be keepers for the B&G for years to come.

I'd be interested in your impressions of using the S5Pro now that you've had it a while. Are you getting the dynamic range you'd expect? Do you use it in the wide dynamic range mode (I think that's what it's called). What's it's noise like at high ISO (say 800+)? Do you find the relatively slow frame rate a disadvantage for your wedding work?

I have a D70 and D200. I'm thinking of replacing the D70 with a S5 with the objective of having 2 identical bodies (albeit with different menus), one to be used where I need 5fps and one where I need dynamic range and/or high ISO.

Cheers
John

All good but that last shot is a competition winner! It is also a very saleable image. Get some releases for it if you can because it deserves to be published and seen.

Andrew as always 2 inspirational images that illustrate how skill, a good eye and creativity can work together to produce amazing results. # attributes i'm rather short on :) I'm also very impressed with the fuji's clean images. How does it compare to the Canon 5D? Is it what most say... the Nikon high ISO camera?
cheers

Hi John,

Well the first image posted was taken at ISO 1250. Higher ISO then normal for outdoors, as I wanted some ambient light in the shadowed area of the church. Just behind the B&G. I knew the fuji could handle the highlight of the image with it's expanded DR and I was willing let the raining cloud in the sky, acting like a softbox, clip. At ISO 1250 there is little noise, as you can see.

I wouldn't have attempted this shot with with these settings with either D200/D2x. There would have been heaps more clipping, less DR from shadow area in the church and highlights off the birds and clouds, and there would have been heaps more noise in the shadow area.
