Finally! They're done! If I had to do it all over again, I think I might try to snoot the lights to give it more contrast and harsher edges.

The promo officer for the play is extremely happy with the photos as it reflected the period of the play, the darkness and characters.

To give you an idea of the setup, I had my 580EX off the camera using the canon cord and my SB800 as a rear light pointed at a red velvet background. I don't know why, but the background seems to have disappeared during the jpg conversion

All shots were taken at ISO400, f8 or so and 1/200s. Speedlights were on manual settings to provide a nice consistent output. I still don't quite trust TTL in situations like these.

These do indeed give a nice feel for the story, but I still think they could have been a tad brighter. In #1 I'd even have been tempted to bring the red curtain in the background up a touch to add some blood red to the shot. These tiny criticisms aside I can see why they'd be happy with these shots.

Is this the Sondheim musical or the play?

Composition wise I like the photos, but I found them to be a tad dark on my screen at work.. (the LCD is competing hard with some harsh morning light..) but a extra brightness for me wouldn't go astray. I love the light on the razor.. (nice touch!)

Thanks for the comments guys - I checked it on both the LCD and CRT and the brightness was fine.

Peter, it's for the musical I didn't want to bring out the red too much as I didn't want it to detract too much from the scene.

You're not the first people to question about the brightness of my pics..I really need to look into borrowing a Spyder 2 or some sort of monitor calibration tool. Then again, I was editing this in a dark room...literally had the lights off and the only ambient lighting in my room was spilled from the light in the lounge (which is a fair few metres away)
