I think it's a kite...

Today was a strange day. At last we had a nice sunny day in Coffs, not complaining 'bout the rain mind you, but took off about 6pm on my trusty kayak and the birds were very co-operative.

P.S. Upon returning to my parked Holden Astra at the Boambee public boat ramp, I found the side window smashed and contents of my glovebox gone, gone, gone, not to mention the car is filled from front to rear with glass. Oh well, at least the constable found some fingerprints to try and catch the perpetrators...I will have to find another place to launch my kayak. At least my camera gear was with me in the boat!

Back on topic (had to get all that off my chest), these shots were taken in perfect light with my trusty old Tamron 300mm freebie.

I think you'll find those fantastic pics are of an Australia Osprey. He / She was very co-operative!

The talons are too big for a kite...

Edit: was so caught up in the pics I forgot about the car! The boat ramps in Darwin were always like that too, you towed the boat there with the worst car you had, left the windows open or doors unlocked and some small change in the ash tray. Hope the police catch the little buggers.

Sorry to hear about the car Max, that really sucks :(
On a brighter note, as you said, you had your gear with you and you've taken some wonderful shots of this beautiful bird :) Were u insured?

Thanks Geoff, yes, the car is insured but will most probably be cheaper to pay cash for a new window, not sure there. Nevermind, it happens to all of us at some time.

And thanks for the note about the Osprey Brett, a beautiful bird indeed.

Thanks Craig, I really think this proves that light is everything. Get the right light and it doesn't really matter what gear you have (within reason).

On the other hand, if I had had good quality glass I most probably would not have been splashing around the creek in my kayak and would have missed the shot altogether... :)

I really like #4 Max.
On my monitor the others look a little blown in the chest and under wing areas. Although they are very sharp.
Cheers
John
