decided to go vist the local grade cricket on the weekend

this was my favourite shot from the outing.
this is Simon Katich showing he still has the goods
sorry about the water mark, but I got a bit of interest from the club and decided this was the way to go

d2x, 500mmf4 full frame. used the full wimberley head too cos I could! (only 20m from where the car was parked)
no hassles getting big glass into grade games!

there is more of the bowlers than anything else cos some of the mothers/ spouses wanted pix.

Have you traded in the Nikkor 300mm f/2.8 for the 500mm f/4

this is the 300f2.8 with tc17 giving 500f4
but 500f4 sounds more impressive.

500mm is plenty close enough for these games too. shame it aint so at the scg (if of course they let you take it in the first place)

cricket season is nearly over now, shame I never thought of going to the grade matches earlier in the season.

not much I can do about the fence, although they are putting up a nice white picket fence next year.

Excellent sports shot, nicely balanced crop (I assume it was cropped?), perfect cover drive, if only the fence was wooden pickets, well done Steve.

max, this was shot with the @ 500mm and a relatively smaller grade ground so is full frame. nothing cropped on the vertical side at all, a small bit cut off the end to match a4 size aspect.
for some of the shots in the gallery I had to either move the tc or go back 10m from the boundary. I opted to move back because I was too lazy to remove the TC17.

Pretty much composed in camera. Grade grounds are good to practice on cos you are usually closer to the action and usually you will be the only spectator!! so you can take whatever glass you got right up the the boundary fence. (this was taken from the boundary at a wide mid off position for the left hander)
