All 868 metres of it. Sunset at Urangan, the harbour for Hervey Bay, gateway to Fraser Island and whale watching cruises. Colours are exactly as they appeared - I haven't touched the saturation. It's just that beautiful!

You're right there Chris. And this area has managed to escape a lot of the development that has ruined the Gold and Sunshine coasts. Not sure how long that can last..

It's actually part of the "tilt Australia" plan that will get water coming from north and west to run down to the south eastern parts of the country.

It's okay, Gary - I made them go back to their positions after the shot so as not to disrupt the flow.

Especially when dodging flying fishing tackle from kids who've never held a rod before and poop from the pelicans that were perched on many of the the light poles..

Good capture. Being a former resident of Hervey Bay, i can agree that the sunsets there are quite good, although they disappear all too fast. The pier used to be much longer too but a few hundred more metres of it was washed away during a cyclone, some years ago. It also had a railway track the length of it.

That reminds me. I caught my first fish there with my Grand Father in 1962 at the ripe age of 6. I recall that the guest house we were staying at cooked it up for me for dinner. A somewhat boney Garfish if my memory serves.

That is a lovely shot Simon. You bring back memories of when I lived in Hervey Bay and those beautiful tranquil sunsets over the water.

This is a lovely image, but like a few of your posts recently I think the tiny thumbnail does your images a disservice since I think there will be a reasonable percentage of people who'll only click the thumbnail for an image that leaps out of the page. At these sizes that is a big ask.

Thanks for that Peter. I thought posting just the thumbnail with the 'click on it" option was more courteous to members but I see your point about people not bothering unless something really catches their eye. I'll fix things.

I was only just discussing this very issue last night and was going to have a word to you. Great shots deserve to be viewed and should be shared but often that extra step of clicking the thumbnail just doesn't happen.

when I was a kid living in Hervey that jetty was almost twice as long. When the fuel tankers stopped using it we used to climb past the gates near where it now ends and go fishing. BIGGGG tiger sharks!!!!!

As for development in Hervey Bay - phew the population has gone from 8K to 70k in the past 20 years.

My brother is a house painter there and is doing 12 new ones a week.

The only plus to all of the development is that my grandfather used to be the biggest rate payer in the bay and managed to hang on to a fair proportion of his property until he popped off about 10 years ago. Mum and Dad are self sufficient but joined the S.K.I. club a few years ago.

Great story Steve - I'm sure it would have been a magical childhood! I know we can never halt progress but there are ways of going about it and it looks to me like they seem to have the balance right - for the time-being at least anyway. It's still a relatively quiet and friendly place and the bay is simply spectacular. Environmentally, I reckon they know what their greatest asset is and they're doing their best to protect it, while still reaping some very tidy rewards as well! Why wouldn't you?!
