Bel and I had the pleasure of seeing Gary and a few of his fellow muso's perform tonight at a quaint little bar at Kings Cross. There are a few more to follow but here's the first off the rank. Having not really done any indoor pub/night club shots before I found this a new challenge. I primarily used the 17-55 and the 50 1.4 . This was taken with the SB800 which helped beautifully. I will post more tomorrow of the images taken without flash for more review!! For now, Mr Gary Stark on the bass:

Good shot. Lovely balance with the flash. What a good looking old Fender.

Hey, Mick.
I've had that Fender for something like 18 years now; it's 77 P, and a very nice instrument to play. The lady doing the sound was also a bassist, we had a nice chat between our sound check and the start of the gig.
Geoff, you've got the lighting balanced quite nicely in this image; I can see the effects of the stage lighting and while neither is overpowering, I'm wondering how perhaps a further -.7 off the SB800 might have looked?

We shall see when next Belinda and I come along
Thanks for the comments

Tack sharp but it's a bit bright as well. Can you pull the brightness down a bit without losing too much contrast?

I would never call Gary an old "Fender". Geezer maybe, codger even, but not a "Fender".

It's often interesting when you finally see or meet people that you've only communicated with in internet forums. People are rarely meet the *impression* you've built up of them.
After seeing the piccie of Mr Stark (which I think is a great capture but might be better less exposed or bright), he suddenly seems more *human*.
Cheers

Bob,
I think that's a compliment.

Ah crap, I forgot about this gig, too much on! I was only 10 mins up the road too, bugger.

Will have to try and catch the next one!
In terms of the pic, I'm with the others that would like a bit less flash and a bit more natural light, but it's still a great shot.
