Okay, I've pored over my pitiful collection of attempts from the weekend (I only brought home 219 shots, which is about 5 minutes of shooting for the bastards who had D2Hs), and I think I have settled on my 3 favourites. Coincidentally, they are all in portrait orientation. Does that say something about my style, and how I shoot best? I often find that I can frame shots a lot nicer (or to my satisfaction) in portrait.
Obviously that means I need to get a D2X, so I don't have to keep flipping the D70s on its side....
Anyway. Here are my faves from the weekend. Suggestions and comments welcome!
Yep, rocks.
A variation on the footsteps in the sand theme started by someone else (sheepie? Or hyunhie)
I think this is my favourite. I was too lazy to go and look for another shot without tracks cutting across, though.

Great DOF in the footprints one, although it scares me a bit - I need the footprints to be going away from me, not over me!
I have an almost identical shot of the rocks, so now won't bother posting that
And finally, you have to be happy with the third shot, especially given your laziness
It's really cool looking at others' interpretations of locations such as this, which is part of why we have these get togethers. It's also about the social aspect, and learning off each other - something that this weekend succeeded with well and truly

Funny enough, those footprints were made by someone sneaking up on me and pushing me in the back while I was balanced precariously on the balls of my feet, looking for a shot.
If it wasn't for my ninja-like reflexes and keen sense of balance, I would have ended up Tokina-first in the sand at the bottom of the dune.

Really appreciate the last one, a classic "Lawrence of Arabia" photograph, with wonderful colour.

i like the first and third pics the best. My only critique for the second pic is that the DOF is a tad shallow. Would prefer to see the first footprint tack sharp and a bit more.

mmm, dunno who that was...
#3 gets a big thumbs up!
Between this image and Sheepie's Windows Desktop Dune Edition, it's a hard call.

I hate to be a parrot, but #3 is fantastic. Great work, would look fantastic printed large
#2 works because the DOF is just spot on - the whole footprint is sharp and nothing else.
#1 is the weakest for me, colour and texture are nice but there's no obvious focal point.
I think I'm with you on the portrait shooting Des. I guess the discomfort of holding the camera sideways makes us think about composition a bit more
So join in the chorus, and sing it one and all!
