Driftas - DriftmaniaHi there all, had the pleasure of spending the day with Redline (who visited our little state for the above event). An absolute pleasure meeting another Dslr User Member.
Here are a coulple of shots from the outing. ![]() ![]() ![]() The weather wasnt the best but was a pretty good day out none the less. Remainder can be seen in my gallery. http://tassied.smugmug.com Cheers David
Thanks Nat, I will be working on the crops tomorrow. Thought I post a bunch on my site for the guys to checkout. Then get serious with the PP'ing and crops later. Thought I would do this one now, following your suggestion. ![]() Cheers David
Fantastic shots David. I was also there taking my own but I'm a completely new to DSLR, I only bought my camera last week. This was one of my favourites with the standard 18mm - 55mm lens (still waiting for my telephoto)!
![]() What do you think?
Hi there Rainey, you should have said hello. I had a canon 75-300 IS in the car you could have barrowed for the day. You have done a pretty good job with the lens, were you the guy standing on the stairs to the bridge? I remember seeing someone with either a 300D or 350D and kit lens. Cheers David
Haha, yeah mate that was probably me! I was wearing a white hat and probably looked like I didn't know what I was doing. I would have definately said hello if I knew which one you were, so many of your shots on this forum have inspired me to get into photography. I love the motocross ones you took with the Sigma 50-500mm lens, they are awesome! I normally attend most Drift events in Tassie because I know a few of the guys that compete, I'm hoping to get heaps better, so far learning heaps and forcing myself to work with manual controls.
I bought my Canon EOS 350D a week ago, and prior to that I've had no previous experience with DSLR or photography other than a point-n-shoot Sony Cybershot. Loving it so far and have picked up some really good basic tips for shutter speed, aperture control etc. Hope to catch up some time! Cheers, Nick
Well fellows, good to see our Tassie members getting in and having a go as we know David wouldnt be too far away and pics look good mate even though it looks like sun was hiding there for awhile, much the same as here.
Rainy, Welcome to the clan i hope you enjoy your stay and lots to learn from all here and also great friendship. Well done fellows. D3,D2x,D70,18-70 kit lens,Sigma 70-200mm F2.8EX HSM,Nikon AF-I 300m F2.8, TC20E 2X

No Probs Nick, I also have a 350D, but yesterday decided it wasn't going to work. Was stuck with the 30D and having to change lenses. I was the tall guy wearing the beany most of the day and carrying the canon with the 50-500 (my favorite lens as most would already have gathered). Thanks for the compliments and the comments. Don't hesitate in asking questions here, you'll find that this forum is very helpful and very friendly. I dare say I will be attending most drift days also, along with every other motorsport event on the calander. Will keep an eye ut for you at the next one. BTW which telephoto are you looking at getting?
Hi there John, Hope all is well in your little part of paradise. Yep the sun was playing a game of hide and seek for most of the afternoon, so just continued to shoot and hope for the best.
Thanks for the warm welcome BBJ.
![]() David, I purchased the 75-300mm Canon telephoto lens with my kit for an extra $99 but they are still waiting for the shipment to arrive as there was an apparent shortage. Its just a basic one to get me started as far as I am aware but should satisfy me in the short term. I will look out for you later in August at Symmons then because I reckon I'll take my Starion or Celica for a run up the Midlands to that event. I think Ignition will be running a Show 'n Shine and probably recording a segment for their DVD at the same time.
Excellent, I started with the 75-300 also, not a bad lens. I now have the IS version in my bag. I will be going to Symmons in August, so just keep an eye out and hurl a lens cap at me if I walk past. Not sure if I will be staying up there overnight or commuting both days (plans still to be finalised).
Hurl a lens cap!
![]() I'll stop hijacking your thread after this post I promise (hehe). But yeah I will probably only go up on the Sunday because its a long drive and my partner would kill me if I used our entire weekend for 'more' car things. I have started putting together a photo album here: http://s84.photobucket.com/albums/k12/rainey06au/dslr/ Speak to you soon, and I'll keep my eye out for "TassieD" threads. ![]()
No problems at all hijacking the thread Nick. Yep throw a lens cap or a rock, I tend to get a little to focused on the action and would probably miss you as I walked past at a motorsport event. I know the feeling about partners and photography, My wife has been very very lenient with me so far as I have spent many a weekend travelling between Symmons and Baskerville (has helped that I am shooting for a couple of the teams). I am planning a trip out this week sometime to do some landscapes / urban landscapes so if your free, feel free to come along and try out a few lenses I have in the bag (10-22, 50-500 just to name two). If you want and if its easier than posting messages here just email me at david@davidclifford.com.au

So very true, it tried hard a couple of times to get us wet but waited till the end of proceedings. Am discussing the accommodation for DA with the boss at the moment, so still no idea if I will be staying overnight or not at this stage.
