Well my photography drought still continues... but hopefully that will all change tomorrow.

Anyhow... I miss posting images so thought I'd submit this one from a few weeks ago.

Image

What do you think of the composition?
Could've used a little more DOF I think.

i like that the composition is different to the norm.. but the dof kills the shot slightly imho.

Yeah I should have upped the ISO to get more DOF (was at 1/60, f4 on the 500mm ... pushing it to say the least!!)

Nice shot Paul. Maybe worth cropping a bit off the top (of the OOF part not the frogmouth). I got a shot of a similar looking bird in Northern Tassie the other day. And I've seen them in Brisbane too. These guys seem to be all over Aus.

Cheers

Hi Paul,

I like this image just the way it is. Depth of Field is not a worry.... the detail in the bird is rather subtle and so to have more detail in the upper half of the picture is only going to create a visual confilict and the bird is going to be the loser.

The amount of height that you have in the image is also important... by having the height you actually make the bird appear more squat... it is a good effect in this image.

My advice... dont touch it. Well done.

I think Mr or Mrs Frogmouth is ultra cool.
A bit more DOF next time will turn this from ultra cool into superb.
