I liked the way the children's dark skin contrasted against the water. I desaturated the BG a little for effect, Let me know whaddevayathink?

WW, its really a bit hard to tell exactly what you are looking at in the picture. If you hadn't stated that they were 2 kids there, I don't think anyone would have guessed.

A close up of the kids would have been better, but then you might start to get questions about why your photographing children (in what looks like a public swimming pool).

Probably not something that i would have felt comfortable doing (close ups).

What I liked was the contrast between the kids and the aqua water.

Sorry, just looks like a pic of blue water, with a dark background and 2 rocks in the water. :(

I like the colour contrast, but would have preferred a higher viewpoint to concentrate on the water & leave the background out altogether. Or, crop the building out of the background down to the awning maybe. Maybe even crop some of the forgraound as well?
Not too sure about the desaturated background without seeing the original, but it is messy enough to need something to move the eye to the foreground.

Can you lift the facial features a little with selective levels or curves?
Is the original as dark as this online one?
