Canon EOS 20D, Sigma 10-20mm at 14mm ISO100 f/16 30s
Semaphore Jetty in Adelaide, just after sunset at about 5.45PM tonight. Sign was illuminated by a lamp just out of frame. Missed a bright sunset, not enough clouds to make it a nice one once the sun was below the horizon so went for a little wonder along the jetty. Came across this interesting spot.
First impressions of the Sigma is that it is an amazing lens, build quality is right up there, relatively sharp (going to do a brick wall tonight) and it exhibits little light diffraction stopping down. Dislike the lens cap and hood design, can't quite get the lens cap off with the hood on. The rear lens cap'll take some getting to used to too. Distortion is an issue I think I'll be coming to terms with over the next few months but the effects can be cool. Noticed flare issues with the street light but, will have to see how it is in broad daylight but at this stage it appears to fair better than my 28-135/3.5-5.6.
C&C on the shot would be appreciated.

Very very nice.
Bel (my fiance) just glanced at this image and went "is that in Adelaide" - freaky - she hadn't seen the title or any of the text, and she's never been to Adelaide....

it would be hard to compare the 28-135/3.5-5.6 and 10-20mm in terms of flare cause the focal lengths are so different. the wider a lense is the prone to flare it becomes. but i suspect in this case the quality of the 10-20 makes it superior.

Great capture Ronza. That lens is on my list and you've made me even itchier to get hold of one!

Great shot Ronza.
I've noticed some great sunsets here recently. Unfortunately I only see them as I drive home.

The caps are bad aren't they. I replaced the lens cap with a Nikon one and don't use the rear cap.

Nice image!
It's well composed and despite missing the sunset, you've captured 'blue hour' nicely. I find that just after dusk you can capture a more balanced image anyway
If this is the first outing with the 10-20, I look forward to seeing more as you work out it's strengths and weaknesses (I'm sure Gary would have something to say in the weaknesses column relating to brand...)
I'm still unsure if I want the 10-20 or the Tokina 12-24 when people keep posting images as good as this!
For the cold, I highly recommend the Windstopper Stretch Gloves here
They're really really good (a necessity for Canberra/Southern NSW this time of year).
The material is thin enough that you can still easily use the buttons on a D70, and you don't notice at all if you're using a D2 series body (much bigger buttons for sports shooters etc). I think the Canon stuff would be similar.

Wow! Love your work! Great contrasting colours and the interesting "Box" works well.

Re Freezing ass off Does anyone know of a good windstopper beanie cap for my poor bald head?

Hehe, thanks for the comments guys. I had gloves in the boot of the car, wasn't expecting to stay long at that spot so must remember to be packing gloves in the camera bag from now on this time of the year.
Had a little bit of fun today with the Sigma 10-20 during shooting football, the wide angle is simply fantastic, 'tis a pity about having to get used to the different caps. Lots of potential ahead with the new lens I reckon
