Went to Eastern Creek bike ride day to take some test shots.
A work friend is having his first bike race at Eastern Creek next Sunday and he has asked me to take some shots of him. Naturally I jumped at the chance,but I now have realised that before all my race shots were only for my fun and now this is more serious and someone is actually going to want to see good action shots. Are these of a suitable standard to be OK,I know you guys will be honest .

In a word, yes. 1 and 2 are great although 2 is maybe a little bit on the soft side (you might be able to afford to be a little more vigorous on the USM), but 3 is a cracker. Good work!

looks like it was an overcast day? I think there are ok. thesecondone looks a bit blury.
I would love to put a camera with a 10.5mm lens and remote on the white and blue lines. would be an incredible shot.

The first two look really good .Looks like turn two . Slight yellow cast on the 1st one to my eyes . The third one doesn't do much for me as far as from a customer point of view .

A few shots at the approach to turn three always look pretty cool . Leaning over into the curve and you can get a good close up there without long glass.

Thank you for your comments it was overcast day,the first and second shots were taken with a 2xtc which is why they are a little soft.
MCWB could you please explain what you mean by being more vigorous on the USM.

Jeff, nice shots mate. Agree that number two is a bit soft, but the others are really good. Your mate will be chuffed if you can get images of him that good, and there is no reason you can't. You seem to have the Sigma worked out well and truly.

I would be tempted to pump up the contrast a little, to give your images that 'magazine' feel to them, really make the colours stand out. But thats just my humble (very humble) opinion.

Nice shots mate. Good practice for the V8's huh?

Nice shots, I'm no expert on motorsport photography but these look pretty sharp.

Jeff, mate this 1 slipped past me, but yeh looking ok and yes the dull days dont make these machines nice and bright like some are. I have to battle with this all the time here as we have like 4 seasons in 1 day so it is always in low light but do get lucky at times.

I think the shots are ok, and i think that maybe on the 1st and 2nd shots i would have moved around a bit to your left so that it is not so head on.
Like this shot just slightly off that head on but i think it makes a better picture.

But mate done well, keep it up.

Sure, I just meant that you might need (and be able to) to sharpen the softer pics (those with the TC as it turns out) a bit more than you usually do.

Yes dont get him going as it will only cost him lots of money, but believe it or not fella's the pic above i took it with the 80-400VR. Just as a different angle to get more of the bike in.
