Thanks for the opportunity to choose this month's Exercise in Style which is to be Extremely Shallow Depth of Field.

Submissions valid between 1-30 June 2006

THE RULES:

IMPORTANT: There are no prizes. This is not a challenge. It is an exercise...
1. All members are urged to participate with photos taken in the current month
2. All makes and models of camera accepted, FSLR, DSLR, P&S, pin hole, MF, LF
3. All method of Post Processing (PP) allowed- unless 'theme' states otherwise
4. Only one (1) image per member
5. Submissions valid between the 1st and last day of the month.
6. You may do more PP after posting your image
7. First person who posts an appropriate image gets to choose theme for next month
8. Have Fun !!

And to start, here is mine (which of course is not part of the exercise but just to give you an idea of "extreme" DOF.)

excellent subject choice for this excercise Sheila
i love creamy bokeh

shot at f1.4 on the Nikkor 85mm f1.4
the blur at the forefront is not dof it's a blurred out garment in front of her face

Wendell - the bokeh behind the model on the left (as you look at her) is certainly creamy - the OOF blur of the material is quite distracting unfortunately.

My word Steve, that pin head is an extremely extremely shallow DOF. Just a tiny sliver. Excellent shot. The second is great too, colours are lovely, but you're gonna have to choose one as your entry I'm afraid :lol:

Like that shot a lot Wendell looks like it was taken in a low sun lit field after a concert in 1969 (bring back free love).

I finally managed to get some spare time to put a ES worthy entry in. Had a bit of fun getting the lighting right

A 85/1.4 would have been a treat for this!.

This is kind of Selective Focus rather than DOF but i think it works for the theme anyway - how else can you shoot shallow DOF at f16?!

And consequently, your DOF is huge (as opposed to extremely shallow) - all the way from the trees to the clouds :wink:

finally got around to thinking up something to shoot ...
during the week i bought 3 second hand extension tubes with a Pentax F50/1.4 [for $99.00] and wanted to try it out so i added three other extension tube i had to the combo and shot this one dollar coin at f1.4

the eyes have it ...

Nice one Big Red. It is impressive how much detail a coin has close up - mainly scratches. Have you tried to mount the Pentax 50mm in reverse?

not long after i bought the DS i glued two filter rings together and made a 50-50 macro using two M50/1.7 lenses ...
talk about small DOF :lol:
