I was officialling out at this rally on Saturday, and had the camera in full swing. :)

It was the dustiest rally I have been at in a long time, took about an hour to clean the dust off the body and lens after the event, - not to mention yourself but I got a few pics that I don't mind. :)

These are two from the selection that can be seen at:

The poor quality Jpegs make them look a bit softer then they were. :D

How can these be improved? This is something that I do want to try and get better at, any suggestions?

Thanks
Tristan

#1 - good!

#2 - the first thing I notice is the need for some serious weed control in the lower left :) Overall, the image seems snap frozen from the shutter speed.

As an experiment, I pulled it into photoshop and had a bit of a look to see if I what I'd look at doing...

Image PS steps went something like this

1. Hue/Saturation - cyans - saturation = -100 ( remove impact of sky in background, bring focus down on to car )
2. lasso select tool around car. select -> feather selection, 5px
3. layer - new layer via copy
4. deselect layer 1 visibility
5. filter - blur - motion blur, 20 px 0 deg
6. lasso select sky above mountains. select -> feather selection, 5px.
7. blur -> gaussian blur, 10 px ( clean up horizontal striping in sky from motion blur)
8. enable visibility for layer 1.

It's only a shitty first pass and needs more attention to detail. For illustration purposes only :)

I love number 1. The car is nice and sharp but due to the background blur and dust cloud there is a great sence of movement.

Number two is great but I'd like to see a little more room on the right hand side and it doesn't have the same sence of movement as the first.

Both great shots though.
